HOME refuse collections in the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council area will resume today following yesterday's undertaking by residents to temporarily lift their picket of Ballyogan dump in Carrickmines, south Dublin.

A spokesman for the council said rubbish collections would return to normal today, tomorrow and next Monday.

The refuse collection service to 50,000 homes had been disrupted by a picket by residents in protest at the presence of travellers on part of the dump.

The picket had led to a disruption of collections because refuse could not be deposited in the dump.
