The RUC has launched a murder inquiry after a man was stabbed in east Belfast on Wednesday. Mr Arthur Berryman (46) was attacked at his home in Imperial Street.

A masked man wielding a weapon, thought to be a knife, forced his way in shortly before midnight.

Mr Berryman's wife suffered minor facial injuries when she was shoved out of the way.

He was attacked in the living room and died at the scene.

Det Chief Insp Larry Cheshire said no motive had been established and the murder weapon had not been recovered. He described the incident as a "vicious and unprovoked attack".

Mr Berryman was the fourth person to have been murdered in the North this week.
