A fire at a derelict building in the loyalist Shankill area of west Belfast has lead to dozens of local residents being evacuated over fears of a gas explosion.

Two large oxyacetylene cylinders are understood to be inside the building at Ainsworth Avenue.

PSNI officers and fire brigade staff have closed off the street and motorists and pedestrians are being asked to avoid the area.

The PSNI said the operation to make the building safe may take most of the day.
