SEPARATE attacks on two men by masked gangs in Dundalk on Wednesday night are not believed to have been carried out by paramilitary organisations.

In the first attack a 30 year old man suffered two broken arms and severe bruising at his home. He was attacked by up to six masked men carrying a wooden bat and iron bars.

In the second attack a man in his early 20s received bruising to his upper body after three masked men carrying bats, iron bars and a sledge hammer attacked him at his home in the Greenacres area. He was not detained in hospital.

Gardai say they are keeping an open mind on the motives for the incidents. It is believed that different groups of men were involved in the two attacks.
