The appointment of extra judges would mean speedier trials with accused persons spending less time on bail, according to the chairman of the Bar Council, Mr James Nugent SC.

Welcoming the move, he added that it was no substitute for the appointment of an independent body to oversee the provision of court services as, recommended by the Denham Committee.
