Bank inspectors give new report

Inspectors investigating the affairs of National Irish Bank yesterday handed in another interim report to the High Court

Inspectors investigating the affairs of National Irish Bank yesterday handed in another interim report to the High Court. Mr Justice Kelly said he would transfer the matter to be dealt with by another judge during the court's holiday sittings. He also gave Mr Richard Nesbitt SC, for NIB, leave to bring a motion to apply for a copy of the report for the bank.

In March 1998, on the application of the Tanaiste and Minister for Enterprise and Employment, Ms Harney, the High Court appointed Mr Tom Grace and Mr John Blayney as inspectors to NIB.

Under the court order, they are to investigate and report on the affairs of NIB from 1988 to date. The investigation relates to improper charging of interest and fees to the accounts of customers, and improper removal of funds from accounts.
