The body of a British backpacker missing since he was asked to leave a city bar almost two weeks ago has been found in Sydney Harbour, Australian police have confirmed.

A post-mortem examination will officially determine how Mr Kennedy died, however initial inquiries indicate there are no suspicious circumstances

Mr Sean Kennedy (22), was last seen outside a downtown Sydney nightclub on July 29th. His body was found early today in Cockle Bay, an inner city offshoot of the city's famous harbour.

Police said there were no suspicious circumstances, but a post-mortem would determine the cause of death.

Police had set up a taskforce to investigate Mr Kennedy 's disappearance. Australian media reported that the backpacker, who was from Northampton, had been involved in an argument with an unidentified stranger and asked to leave the bar.

Mr Kennedy 's parents, Denise and Donal Kennedy, flew to Australia to search for their son. Police said the family had been informed and asked that their privacy be respected.

Mr Kennedy had been on a working holiday with his girlfriend since February. The couple had planned to travel Australia's east coast and outback before going to Asia and then returning home.

They had attended a concert by the Irish band Ash at the bar the night he disappeared.
