A three-month-old baby girl died following a house fire in Co Cork early this morning.

A three-month-old baby girl died following a house fire in Co Cork early this morning.

Gardaí named the girl this evening as Sadbh McCarthy of Rosewood, Ballincollig.

The baby's mother and her partner were not injured in the fire, which is believed to have been confined to the child's upstairs bedroom.

The alarm was raised at around 5 a.m., but fire officers at the scene were unable to resuscitate the baby. She was removed by ambulance to Cork University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
