The US subsidiary of drugmaker Sanofi-Aventis has paid $190 million to federal and state governments to settle charges of false Medicare claims.

Aventis Pharmaceuticals, now known as Sanofi-Aventis US, agreed to make the payment to resolve allegations that the company engaged in a scheme to inflate the price of Anzemet, the US Justice Department said today.

Anzemet is a drug used to prevent nausea and vomiting in patients undergoing radiation treatment.
