Thierry Henry converted a penalty 11 minutes from time to salvage a point for Arsenal in a 1-1 draw with Liverpool that left the champions five points clear at the top of the English premier league.

Danny Murphy put Liverpool ahead with a penalty nine minutes earlier. Midfielder Steven Gerrard sent a pin-point long ball from inside the Liverpool half to Czech striker Milan Baros, who was brought down in the box by Sol Campbell.

Murphy placed his kick high to David Seaman's left just out of reach of the England keeper.

Arsenal won their dubious penalty at the other end when Norway's John Arne Riise was adjudged to have impeded substitute striker Francis Jeffers on the edge of the Liverpool box.

The result leaves Arsenal on 43 points, five ahead of Chelsea and Manchester United. Newcastle are fourth with 35 after beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 earlier today.

Liverpool's dismal run has now extended to nine games without a win and four points out of a possible 27.
