Members of Republican Sinn Fein arrested after its ardfheis earlier this month are to sue the State for damages they claim were done to their property during Garda searches conducted during their detention.

During a press conference in RSF headquarters in Dublin yesterday, the media were shown photographs purporting to show damage to the homes of two members, Cllr Joe O'Neill, from Bundoran, Co Donegal, and Mr Seosamh O Maoloin, Tyrellspass, Co Westmeath.

Their solicitors were in the process of preparing legal actions, they said.

The party's publicity officer, Mr Ruairi Og O Bradaigh, said material essential to the production of the party's newspaper, Saoirse, was seized when he was arrested. A total of eight properties belonging to the party members were searched, he said.
