Armagh elects SDLP mayor

Armagh is to have an SDLP mayor, in accordance with the city council's power-sharing policy.

Armagh is to have an SDLP mayor, in accordance with the city council's power-sharing policy.

The outgoing deputy mayor, Councillor Tom Canavan, defeated Mr Noel Sheridan of Sinn Fein by six votes to three in the mayoral election, in which Ulster Unionist and DUP members abstained from voting.

The new deputy mayor is Mr James Clayton of the UUP.
