Jerusalem - An Arab judge took a seat yesterday on Israel's Supreme Court for the first time in the Jewish state's history, Justice Ministry officials said.

Mr Abd al-Rahman Zuabi (66), who served 21 years as a judge in the District Court of Nazareth in northern Israel, will serve six months on Israel's highest court. A judicial appointments committee will then decide whether to make the temporary position permanent.
