Appeal on cyclist's death

GARDAÍ HAVE issued an appeal for witnesses to an incident in Cork in which a German cyclist aged 50 lost her life.

GARDAÍ HAVE issued an appeal for witnesses to an incident in Cork in which a German cyclist aged 50 lost her life.

The woman was cycling on the Bandon Road on the western outskirts of the city when her bicycle and a car were in collision shortly after 5pm on Saturday. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was taken to Cork University Hospital for postmortem.

The male driver of the car, in his 30s, was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure. He was treated for shock but was not seriously injured. Gardaí cordoned off the road to allow a forensic crash investigator examine the scene.

The woman had moved to Cork last January. Her name has been withheld pending notification of family members. Gardaí have urged witnesses to contact Togher (021 494 7120) or Bishopstown (021 434 4097) Garda stations.
