The dress actress Angelina Jolie was to wear to the Oscars has been stolen from a car in London.

Ms Jolie's dress, along with a gown for millionaire hotel heiress Paris Hilton, was stolen along with seven other outfits, jewellery and accessories worth £30,000. They were to have been flown to Los Angeles yesterday for Sunday's glamorous film awards ceremony.

The garments were taken from a car owned by designer Scott Henshall in Knightsbridge, west London. A thief slashed open the soft-top roof of Mr Henshall's car and grabbed the goods, which were in bags inside the car.

Mr Henshall had parked his car in Lowndes Square to go into the Harvey Nichols store with a friend, Lady Victoria Hervey. When he came out, the dresses he had made for the celebrities had been stolen.

"He was completely astonished, it was in broad daylight," said a fashion source. "I think his reaction was immediate panic. He started looking in bins nearby."

Ms Jolie's outfit was a body-hugging red corset dress decorated with cherubs, priced at £3,000. A £3,000 black chiffon flapper dress for Tamara Beckwith, who is due to conduct TV interviews at the ceremony, was also stolen. - (PA)
