New York - Young members of the American Amish sect are turning to drink and fitting their horse-drawn buggies with powerful stereo systems, it was reported yesterday.

The sect, famous for its plain dress and refusal to embrace electricity and cars, is seeing its teenage members take part in drinking binges, smoking and listening to music, all forbidden by the religion, the Toledo Blade newspaper reported.
