Aer Lingus has won a court appeal against £600 damages granted to a widow in the Dublin District Court over the Quinnsworth stamps scheme. The airline had appealed the case to the Circuit Court.

Mrs Catherine Sherlock of O'Horgan Road, Ballyfermot, told Judge Liam Devally that she received a stamp for every £10 spent on groceries. When she went to Aer Lingus on November 1st last year with her stamps she had been told all available flight seats had been taken.

Mr Paul Gardiner, counsel for Aer Lingus, said the offer was a limited one without guarantee of availability of seats. Flight certificates were available on a first-come, first-served basis from October 1st but by the time Mrs Sherlock had sought a certificate there were no more available.
