Aer Lingus has written to SIPTU today warning that staff face suspension if they do not co-operate with the training new employees recruited on lower terms and conditions.

The company's move has increased tension at the airline which is already under strike notice from SIPTU. The airline has recruited 12 new check-in and boarding staff on the new, lower, conditions as part of Aer Lingus's cost-cutting plan.

New members are receiving training from management but are due to shadow-experienced staff from next Wednesday.

SIPTU notified management last week that they would not co-operate with this training, prompting today's response from the airline. In today's letter Aer Lingus said assisting with integration of new staff was an integral part of the normal duties of all employees.
