AC Milan are sending out mixed messages regarding the potential signing of England captain David Beckham.

AC Milan are sending out mixed messages regarding the potential signing of England captain David Beckham.

The Italian club's vice president Adriano Galliani has been quoted as saying "Beckham is our primary target".

But general director Ariedo Braida insists the transfer rumours linking the Manchester United midfielder to the European champions are fabrication.

Braida today claimed: "No, we are absolutely not interested, they are just fantasy rumours that have been reported by the press. He [Beckham] is a great player, but there is nothing in it".

United broke their silence on the speculation surrounding Beckham's future on Saturday when they issued a statement in which they revealed that Italian and Spanish clubs had "expressed a firm interest" in signing Beckham.

Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona and AC Milan are the three clubs thought to be genuine contenders to sign 28-year-old.
