Four crew members were rescued from a fishing boat which went on fire off the Blasket Islands yesterday morning. The alarm was raised by the crew of the Altair shortly before 11 a.m. The boat, skippered by Mr John Brosnan, was one mile south of Inishvickillane when the fire broke out.

The crew, who were uninjured, were taken on board a French vessel which was in the area, and later transferred to the Valentia lifeboat. The lifeboat then towed the Altair to Dingle, where the extent of damage is currently being assessed.
