320 jobs lost as AFL closes Dundalk plant

AFL Ireland, the car component manufacturer, is to close its operation in Dundalk with the loss of 320 jobs

AFL Ireland, the car component manufacturer, is to close its operation in Dundalk with the loss of 320 jobs. In a statement today the company said the Dundalk plant had found it increasingly difficult to compete.

It said downward pressure on prices and falling sales had made it impossible to continue the operation. The company is expected to begin consultations with staff next week.

It said it would explore ways it can help its employees to find new work. Earlier this year Guinness closed its facility in Dundalk with the loss of 290 jobs while Xerox has also announced job cuts at its facility in the town.
