Srinagar - Twenty six separatist guerrillas and four Indian soldiers were killed in separate gun battles in the Kashmir region, police said yesterday.

They said 20 civilians were also wounded yesterday when suspected separatist guerrillas threw a grenade at a security picket in north Kashmir. No militant group has claimed responsibility for the grenade attack.

Eight militants belonging to the Pakistan based Lashkar-e-Taiba were killed in a gun battle between the security forces and separatists near Bhuddal area in Rajouri district yesterday, a defence spokesman said.
