3½ years in jail for dealing cocaine

A former “elite cyclist” and restaurateur who became addicted to cocaine and began dealing the drug has been jailed for 3½ years.

Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard that Anthony Doyle (38) was a highly successful cyclist on the amateur circuit but began drinking and taking drugs when two years of extreme training left him burned out.

He was arrested after selling cocaine with an estimatedl street value of €11,620 to undercover gardai three times in 2009.

When gardaí searched his home they found another €10,400 worth of cocaine, €22,500 in cash, a weighing scales and clear plastic bags. Doyle, Milltown Hall, Mount Saint Anne’s, Milltown, Dublin, pleaded guilty to four counts of possession of drugs for sale or supply on various dates between October and December in 2009.

The court heard that Doyle had owned a restaurant business in Rathmines which employed a number of staff but had since closed down.
