Some 27 rare leather bags were stolen from an exhibition hall in Dublin's RDS on Tuesday night in a theft that is baffling exhibition organisers.

The bags, made by Dingle, Co Kerry, company Holden, were among a stand of up to 200 of the handmade bags on show at the RDS for the Fáilte Ireland Dublin Horse Show.

Some were once-off from a limited edition specially designed to attract the eye of the thousands who attend the show.

Conor Holden, founder of the company, said the bags were worth €8,000. The thieves had taken the best and most expensive, he added.
