A fireman who slipped on a wet floor in Mountjoy Prison has been awarded £23,000 damages in the Circuit Civil Court against the Minister for Justice.

Mr Pat O'Connell, counsel for Mr Paul Carey, of Martin Savage Park, Navan Road, Dublin, said Mr Carey fell and injured his back while at the prison to take a prisoner who had overdosed on drugs to hospital.

The Circuit Court President, Mr Justice Esmond Smyth, said he was satisfied the recently washed floor had not dried out properly when the ambulance crew had been admitted to the prison.
