In the largest-ever one-day sale of starter homes in the Dublin suburbs, 225 apartments valued at €60 million were sold yesterday in a new development planned for a site near Ashtown in Dublin 15.

The homes will be among 1,500 to be built over the next few years in a new urban village about to take shape along the Royal Canal, less than four miles from the city centre. The development will have its own railway station.

Virtually all the apartments in Royal Canal Park were bought by first-time buyers because the selling prices were pitched lower than in most new schemes and were almost 50 per cent less than prices recently charged for homes in the Dublin docklands.

One-bedroom apartments were sold at between €205,000 and €235,000, two-bedroom homes were priced from €245,000 and €280,000, while three-bedroom units ranged from €325,000 and €350,000.
