Frankfurt - One hundred and fifty passengers were taken off a high-speed train on Saturday, three days after post-war Germany's worst rail disaster, because of a mysterious noise, a railways spokesman said yesterday. The ICE 90 train, similar to the one involved in last Wednesday's crash in which 102 people died, was travelling from Vienna to Hamburg when the driver noticed an odd sound.

He slowed down and stopped at Neumarkt station. The 150 passengers were transferred to regional trains. "The passengers were at no time endangered," the spokesman said. "Initial investigations have showed that there was no damage to the wheel carriage. An examination of the engine was still being carried out."
