London - The Lord Chief Justice yesterday imposed a sentence tariff of 12 years upon Learco Chindamo, the killer of headmaster Philip Lawrence.

Chindamo, now 21, stabbed Mr Lawrence to death outside his school as he defended a pupil. Aged 15 at the time of the stabbing, Chindamo was found guilty by a jury at the Old Bailey in October 1996 and a tariff of 12 years was recommended by the trial judge.

Mr Lawrence was attacked in December 1995 outside St George's Roman Catholic School in Maida Vale, west London.
