Police came under attack last night in north Belfast after they attempted to arrest people throwing home petrol and paints bombs at patrol vehicles.

Trouble flared at around 7.30 pm when two petrol bombs and three paint bombs were thrown at patrol vehicles Henry Place.

A crowd of around 100 people confronted the police as they attempted to leave their vehicles to make arrests.

There was further trouble in the area an hour later when police responded to a report of youths making petrol bombs in nearby Victoria Parade. They retrieved two primed petrol bombs, a gallon of petrol and emulsion which they said was equipment for making improvised bombs.
