Snow-free sledging takes off

Australians are going dog-sledging without snow and sometimes even without traditional sledging dogs. The sport is being enjoyed by anyone willing to hook their dog up to a bike or scooter for a spin around local trails. Apparently the dogs love it, and it keeps them healthy by allowing them to run rather than walk. If you want to try it, the two essential pieces of equipment are a sledging harness and an elastic one-dog bungee line.

The Cork and Kerry branches of the Irish Hotels Federation (IHF) have called for urgent action by Cork Airport to secure a replacement operator for Ryanair's Cork-East Midlands route, which is to be discontinued from October 26th.

With tourism in the area under severe pressure, the airline's decision is already having serious consequences in terms of advance bookings at local hotels and guest houses, according to Charlie Sheil, chairman of the Cork branch.
