Leprechaun Hunt:Even though St Patrick's Day is gone your giant green hat and the rest of the shamrockery could still get another outing tomorrow at the quite bonkers sounding National Leprechaun Hunt.

It takes place in Carlingford, Co Louth and the pictures on the event’s website of last year’s hunt look hilarious as hordes of people chase around the streets, beach and mountains looking for little green men.

Hunters assemble tomorrow at the Green in Carlingford at 1.30pm where “leprechaun hunting licences” will be for sale for €5.

This is a charity event with proceeds going to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin and local charities.

Then hunters assemble at the mountain gate and head off in search of the 50 leprechauns hidden about the place.

The hunt finishes at 4.30pm with finders claiming their prizes at the Square in Carlingford. Participants, especially children, are encouraged to dress up to add to the fun.

One area is out of bounds during the hunt: the land within the perimeter of the Sliabh Foy loop walk is now designated a protected area for flora, fauna, wild animals, and according to the locals, leprechauns.
