Dance festival: Going to the theatre can be expensive, so, to give families a cheaper way to see ballet, Cork Opera House is offering a free child's ticket with every full-price adult ticket for the weekday performances of Romeo & Juliet and Coppelia, which the Russian Classical Ballet Theatre is performing next week.

The company is bringing more than 50 dancers and a 40-piece orchestra on its first tour of Ireland. Be quick, though: the free tickets are subject to availability. Call 021-4270022 or see www.corkoperahouse.ie.

Insider trading: House of Fraser is holding an interiors evening at its Dundrum Town Centre store on Tuesday, on the homewares floor from 6pm to 9pm. As well as a free glass of wine, you'll be able to get up to 20 per cent off homewares (and 10 per cent off small electrical appliances). There'll also be talks and demonstrations from Patrick Guilbaud and Champagne Occasions, among others.

Autumn clear-out: You'll also find savings at Burgess Department Store, in Athlone, Co Westmeath, which is clearing out its children's and lingerie sections, before a renovation, with many items at €5 and €10 - in addition to its bedlinen and cookware sale, which runs until the end of October.
