Holy Hours: If you feel like doing something different tomorrow morning to mark Easter, why not attend one of the many sunrise services taking place at dawn throughout the country?

There has been a noticeable increase in the number of these Easter-morning services in recent years, and they are proving popular with adults and children alike.Usually the services take place on hillsides, sea shores, lake shores, or at places of particular historical or ecclesiastical significance. Most are ecumenical. This year they will begin at the unearthly, if indeed holy, hour of 6am. Dawn tomorrow is at 6.24am. Details of services are available from your local parish/congregation. In Dublin, there will be sunrise services at Howth summit, Sandymount strand, Killiney hill, the Papal cross in the Phoenix Park, and Hermitage golf club in Lucan. There will also be one at Powerscourt in Enniskerry, Co Wicklow, which will begin with a lighting of the paschal candle in the ruins of the old church on the Powerscourt estate.
