Our Wedding Story: Met at 14, married 14 years later

From teenage romance to a wedding that – almost – went off without a hitch

Aisling White and Alan Mulligan

Both from Dublin, Aisling (29) and Alan (30) met at 14 when they worked together in their local newsagents. They got engaged on Christmas Eve 2014.

“We’d been together 14 years at this stage, we had our daughter Hayley (10) and our house – we did everything backwards,” laughs Aisling who works in the same bank as her husband.

On August 2nd, 2015, Aisling and Alan were married at Killashee House Hotel in Naas, Co Kildare.

A highlight for the groom was performing the sand ceremony with the couple’s daughter who also made a speech after dinner; her mother’s favourite part of the day.

Another standout moment for the bride, whose outfit came from Folkster and Forever 21, was seeing her grandfather Brian waiting to walk her up the aisle. The groom’s parents are Joan and Joe and Aisling’s mother is Marian.

The couple count themselves as “very lucky to have a very talented musician in the family” – Simon O’Driscoll, who played with his band during the evening.

Luckily, says the bride, “there were no near-disasters and everything flowed well . . . our ring-boy did lose the rings under the chairs during the ceremony. We didn’t even notice but everyone else did as he scrambled around looking for them. Once he got them back they were tied on to the pillow so tight it took some time to get them off when it came to exchanging them.”
