Interested in growing your own food in 2011? GIY (Grow it Yourself) Dublin City Centre’s first meeting takes place at the Food Co-op in Newmarket in Dublin 8 (dublinfood.coop) next Saturday, January 22nd, at noon. The meeting will take place in the room adjacent to the main market hall.

GIY is a registered charity that aims to inspire people to grow their own food and provides them with the practical skills they need to do so successfully. The organisation gets GIYers together (in the community and online) on a regular basis to talk, learn from each other and exchange tips, produce and advice. Activities include monthly meetings, demonstrations, garden visits, seed and seedling swaps, produce bartering, mentor panels and grower’s meitheals. There are nearly 100 GIY groups and approximately 6,000 GIYers involved. Meetings are free and open to people who are growing at all levels – from beginners to old hands. See giyireland.com.
