Adam Markovic, a New York painter who runs his own school in Florence, will teach classical drawing and painting at the Rosnaree School of Art in Slane, Co Meath, for three weeks during August. Students can elect to reside in the Hidden Ireland house which overlooks the Boyne and Newgrange, or stay at the nearby hostel, Newgrange Lodge.

Either way, lunch and breaks will be served on the lawn, with fresh fruit and salad from the organic garden. “I believe that although academic training is regarded as old fashioned and restrictive nowadays,” says Markovic, “this can be true if only applied. But as Picasso said: ‘There is no abstract art. You must always start with something. Afterward you can remove all traces of reality.’ ”

The dates for the course are August 3rd to August 21st, from 10am to 5pm. It costs €540 per week, minus €100 for each extra week. Contact Aisling Law at 041-982 0975 or 085-1774828. See www.rossnaree.ie/artschool.
