THIS IS the all-new Mercedes B-class, expected to hit showrooms in autumn 2011.

It represents a significant shift for the model, ending the current B-class’ overall layout of a super-mini MPV in favour of a more hatchback-like design.

Clearly aimed at taking on the likes of the VW Golf, its lower profile and sportier appearance is hoped to attract younger buyers rather than the middle-aged and older buyers with whom the current model is popular, particularly for its practicality and ease of access. Little is known yet about the range of petrol and diesel engines to expect, be we are pretty sure a hybrid and a fuel-cell variant will be on offer right from the start.
