A photographic memoir

A must read for all bike fans this year is the fantastic biography of Martin Finnegan, one of Ireland's finest road racers. The Flying Finnby Stephen Davison, close friend of Finnegan and Ireland's foremost road-racing photographer, features some astonishing photos from Finnegan's career up until his tragic death at the Tandragee 100 in May 2008. In over 150 images, accompanied by perceptive text, Davison documents Martin's rise to prominence and the pain of his family following his death.

A selection of photos from the book appeared in last week’s Motors along with an interview with Finnegan’s widow, Brenda. Published by Blackstaff Press, the book is on sale for €19.50.

Kawasaki aims for novices

Kawasaki has launched two new four-stroke, single cylinder 125 cc motorcycles – the KLX125 and the D-Tracker Supermoto 125, with the hope of attracting novices to the world of biking.

Both machines are dirt bike-style, ideal for around the city.

Suspension is better than traditional “road” bikes, they are narrower and the riding position is higher, giving a better line of vision.

The D-Tracker is a supermoto bike with 14bhp and a top speed of 70mph. It has the same engine and chassis as the KLX125 and features an enduro-style mudguard.
