Apartments for Benburb StreetProperty developer PJ McGrath has been given the green light to build a large apartment complex on Benburb Street off Dublin's north quays.

McGrath Group Developments has been given permission to demolish storage buildings on a brownfield site at 32-40 Benburb Street to make way for an eight-storey apartment complex and retail units close to the National Museum at Collins Barracks.

The developer's plans include the construction of an eight-storey slender tower on the site which is bounded by the buildings and playing fields of the Law Society of Ireland.

Upholding Dublin City Council's decision to grant permission, An Bord Pleanála ruled that the development would not adversely affect the character or setting of the adjacent protected structure on Blackhall Place. Objectors to the development included the Law Society of Ireland. It wrote to the planning board stating that the scale and density of the scheme was inappropriate.
