Castlethorn plans 330 homesJoe O'Reilly's Castlethorn Construction has submitted two planning applications to Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council for separate developments.

At Old Wesley Rugby Club in Kilgobbin Lane, Stepaside, Dublin 18, it is looking to demolish the former rugby club and remove the pitches. The proposal is to build 281 residential units, including 52 two, three and four-bed houses and dormer bungalows. There would also be 24 duplex units in three blocks, 57 gateway apartments in five blocks rising to six storeys, and 148 apartments in seven blocks rising to six storeys. The developer is also seeking permission to build 228 surface car-parking spaces and a playing pitch, all on a site of 4.48 hectares.

On a 5.24-hectare site on Brighton Road, Leopardstown Road, Foxrock, Dublin 18, Castlethorn wants to build 49 detached houses, 21 four-bed houses, seven five-bed houses and 21 six-bed houses, ranging in height from two to four storeys. Fourteen of the proposed houses would have detached double garages. There would also be public open space, 84 private car-parking spaces and 17 visitor car-parking spaces.

Mixed-use scheme for Opel site

Dublin City Council has been asked to approve a mixed-use development rising to eight storeys on the former Crosson Opel site beside Clare Hall at Newtown on the Malahide Road. Deileon Ltd is proposing over 32,000sq m (344,445sq ft) of apartments, 6,510sq m (70,073sq ft) of retail, and 6,150sq m (66,198sq ft) of offices over two levels of basement car-parking.

The landmark site, which for many years included the well-known Opel dealership, also includes a Shell filling station (which is to be demolished) and undeveloped land to the south of the site. It is bounded by the Clare Hall shopping centre, Grove Lane and Clare Village (which is under construction). A convenience store anchor tenant is promised for the retail element.

Also included in the application is a crèche and outdoor play areas. The housing element of the development is to be 198 residential units, many of which will include balconies and access to roof gardens and terraces. Some 118 of the apartments are to be two-beds, with three one beds.

Club for Georgian on Green

Restaurant-owner Simon Stokes has submitted a planning application to Dublin City Council to turn a protected structure at 41 St Stephen's Green, Dublin 2, from offices into a members club.
