WITH the new selling season now getting underway, some estate agents are warning that there is likely to be a shortage of good family homes going for sale in south Dublin this autumn.

David Bewleyof Lisneyhas been handling an increasing number of inquiries from families looking for homes costing between €500,000 and a €1 million.

Savills Ronan O'Driscollhas also noted "a particularly strong demand" for homes in mature south city locations where at least 70 per cent of the purchasers are cash buyers.

Viewings have gotten off to a very strong start and the time it takes to sell has mercifully come down with some agents managing to offload homes in weeks rather than months.

Cash is a big player and nobody seems to be surprised that there is so much of it around. It seems that at least some people still believe property is a good investment in a market that has dropped so heavily.
