Kitchen gardens are on the rise

Kitchen gardens are on the rise. From tilled suburban spaces to small balconies and terraces planted with pots of herbs and red fruits, everyone is getting in on greening their outdoors. If you live in a small space designer Nina Thalison’s vertical option is worth checking out (above). It won garden product of the year in Sweden this year. The lacquer-treated steel offers exterioristas a small slice of the type of garden created by French horticulturist Patrick Blanc whose lush vertical wall of green at Paris hotel Pershing Hall spawned a whole new style of gardening.

What makes this piece unique is the fact that it is extendible: the bottom box and top box can be extended from 60cm to 100cm so it can better "fill" the area where you want to install it. Its total height is 150cm. Available from online design shop Inreda.ie, it costs €595.00 as seen. The frame of the piece is white. The middle box comes in white, black or green options.

The Blue Door, in Monkstown and online at Bluedoordirect.ie, has three-tier wooden plant display stands that also sit well on a terrace or can be wall-hung with room for numerous pots of your favorite plants or herbs. Priced €49.50, it comes in sage-green or powder-blue options.
