Out towards Avonmore House, backing on to the forest park and Corballis Demesne, there are big houses on three-quarters of an acre for around £300,000. If you're looking for a smaller house, the Fairgreen semis have big gardens and are close to the village.

Steven Manek - Douglas Newman Good

Stay close to Main Street or around the train station. They're the areas which are most convenient and will get most growth. Fairgreen is a nice location with a good mix of houses.

Target anything within walking distance of the rail station. The old village is undervalued. First-time buyers should go for the terraced houses off the square. For people with more money to spend, a nice detached bungalow on half an acre on any of the roads within half a mile of the village would be a good buy.

A house off the Main Street is a good buy because of being close to the town's amenities. The Fairgreen area is worth noting. There is a new development of detached dormer bungalows here which, at £140,000 or £150,000, is good value.

Get something with a bit of extra ground or a house built in the last 10 years. Woodbine Grove and Close are nicely-spaced houses built by local builder Leslie Armstrong. With higher densities now, gardens in the future will not be so big.
