With demand for services for the homeless in Dublin at an all-time high, despite all the talk about the good times, the Salvation Army is about to upgrade its facilities by building a large new hostel off Aungier Street. In the meantime, the existing three-storey building on York Street, just off St Stephen's Green, has been sold for over £2 million to the neighbouring College of Surgeons. The city planners have just granted permission for a replacement hostel at 2-6 Longford Street Little/ Digges Lane and Dawson Court. The five and six-storey over basement building will have 80 bedrooms.
