SET in peaceful countryside with an organic rose garden to the rear is The Cottage at Killegar, Enniskerry, Co Wicklow a three-bedroom house with a guide price of £200,000. Built in 1925 and much extended over the years, the single-storey house is located off the Dundrum-Enniskerry Road, where it has fine views over the two Sugar Loaf mountains. It will be auctioned by Jackson-Stops McCabe on April 1st. The original house consisted of a large all-purpose room with one bathroom and one bedroom. It was in the hands of one owner for over 60 years until it was sold in 1989. The new owners built on a bedroom, modernised the bathroom and created an organic garden.

In 1995, the house was sold to artist Denis Mammalis and his wife, designer Mairead Tucker. They redesigned the house to suit the needs of a family with a small child. They built on an L-shaped extension consisting of a conservatory/dining area and a main bedroom. The original bedroom to the left of the hall door is a pretty room with stencilled shutters on either side of the sash windows, a wooden floor and a small but ornate cast-iron fireplace. There is a small washroom lobby off the livingroom. It holds the oil-fired central heating boiler and open shelving which currently work as an airing cupboard. It is plumbed for a washing machine.

The lobby leads to a bathroom which has a coloured suite in soft green. The walls of the room and the bath are part panelled in mid green timber. There are attractive window shutters. The lobby kitchen has an exposed stone and brick wall and a Chinese slate floor, with the other walls painted in hyacinth blue. The old enamel sink is flanked by polished wood worktops. The dining area conservatory is teak framed and double glazed.

To one side of the living area there is a front facing bedroom. This has a tongue-and-groove timber floor and a built-in wardrobe. A lobby leads to a small dressing area which has hanging wardrobe space concealed behind full length green drapes. An arch leads from the dressing room to the main bedroom. The whole area is painted a striking green which complements the pale wooden floors. Glazed double doors from the conservatory lead to the paved patio area and garden. The garden wraps itself around the house. The front garden is south facing and is bound by stone walls. There is vehicular entrance with space to park and turn on a gravelled area. The organic rose garden remains, and there are well stocked herbaceous borders and raised beds, as well as a grassed area for leisure and play.
