Refurbished and extended bungalow in Glenageary for €1.45m

Four-bed on Albert Road Upper is bright and spacious with many stylish features

In May 2010, a detached 1930s bungalow needing complete renovation on Albert Road Upper in Glenageary sold for €475,000. It was rebuilt in 2011 and sold in 2014 for €998,000. The new owners invested around €100,000 in the house and garden, according to selling agent DNG – and now Avalon, 64 Upper Albert Road, is back on the market with an asking price of €1.45 million.

The 190sq m (2,045sq ft) three/four-bedroom dormer bungalow is in walk-in condition: the owner, who has barely lived in the house, has furnished and decorated it in a smart, contemporary style, and it could be bought with some of the furniture, mainly from Bo Concept included.

Everything has been done to make Avalon feel bright and spacious inside: the front door has frosted glass panels at each side and above it and opens into a double-height entrance hall. There’s a vaulted ceiling with Veluxes over the large open-plan kitchen/ diningroom/livingroom at the end of the hall, all floored with wide plank oak.

Large island unit This is a really bright space: the kitchen has a large island unit and polished granite countertops, high gloss units and all Neff appliances; there is room for a large dining table here. The kitchen area steps down into the livingroom, which has floor-to-ceiling windows and a sliding door into a large patio.

There are three bedrooms downstairs: one is currently fitted out as a study, the other as a family room/TV room. There’s a bathroom at the end of the hall and a small utility room which opens into a garage at the front of the house.

Up the staircase with a glass banister is the main bedroom and very smart family bathroom.

The bedroom is painted a shade of taupe and has a cream-coloured carpet and a wall of wardrobes. Across the landing, the family bathroom has a free-standing oval bath, a walk-in double shower and double-sink unit with a large lighted mirror and drawers underneath.

The landscaped back garden has a second small patio at another side of the neat back lawn, and a row of recently planted trees against the back fence.

Electronic gates Avalon is near the roundabout at the junction of busy Albert Road and Glenageary Road Upper, sheltered behind electronic gates that open into a gravelled front garden with room to park two cars. It’s a reasonably short walk from here to Glenageary Dart station.
