Price of eco-apartments cut by over 30%

CABINTEELY: FROM €299,000:THE LAST THREE apartments in the energy-efficient Watermint apartments overlooking Cabinteely park are for sale at cut prices. All of the other nine apartments at the scheme on Old Bray Road have been sold, including two penthouses. What is left is one penthouse, one one-bedroom apartment and one two-bed.

The 108sq m (1,162.5sq ft) penthouse was on the market for €1.2 million but is now for sale at €750,000, the one-bed apartment of 52sq m (559sq ft) was €450,000 and is now €299,000, while the two-bed apartment of 90sq m (968sq ft) was €650,000 and is now €450,000. Gunne New Homes is handling the sales.

The developer, Monti (established by Neil Monahan of the Doyle hotel family) built this apartment scheme as a prototype for other schemes his company is working on. The apartments, designed by DMOD Architects, have A1 and A2 BER ratings and include photo-voltaic solar cells, a biomass district heating system, heat recovery ventilation, LED lighting (using 10 per cent of the energy of standard lighting), good insulation and high-performance glazing. The apartments also use rainwater harvesting and generate enough power on site to sell back to the grid (when the ESB allows this).

The interiors of the dual-aspect apartments have been designed by Neil’s sister Ruth Monahan, whose creativity is also put to work at her company Appassionata Flowers.

The kitchens are made with timber from sustainable sources and the worktops are recycled. The bathrooms are tiled in stone and have Vola taps and handmade eco-friendly teak baths.

The scheme overlooks the 96-acre Cabinteely Park (and is named after a mint that grows there) which has a children’s playground. Just off the N11, it is close to the Wicklow Mountains, as well as to bars and restaurants in Cabinteely village and shopping in Foxrock and Cornelscourt.
