Describe the house

The house is set on two acres with a mature garden in the front. It is surrounded by pastureland with stunning, uninterrupted views across East Clare and overlooking beautiful Lough Graney.

It has four double bedrooms (one en suite), a family bathroom, an upstairs study, and downstairs, a large parlour, a diningroom,sittingroom/library, family room, large kitchen with oil-fueled Aga, larder room, utility room and office (with broadband).

There are wooden floors, Kashmir slate floors, Doolin flagstones, Victorian fireplaces and deep recessed sash windows. The floor area is around 279sq m (3,000sq ft).The front of the house faces south-east, so we receive the sun pretty much all day.

Why are you moving?

Julie teaches drawing and painting from the studio (artatthepark), and classes have been so successful we need more space. Having only recently renovated the house we haven't the heart to start again.

What's the best thing about it?

It's lovely and light - we get gorgeous sunrises at the front across the mountains. It's also very tranquil, but within easy reach of Ennis, Galway and Limerick. Shannon airport is 40 minutes' away.

What I really love about this house are all the different rooms we have created while retaining a very traditional feel to the place.

The neighbourhood?

This is rural Ireland at its best - two local pubs with shops open til midnight and beyond. We have the most helpful neighbours at the top of our drive, who have been wonderful friends to us throughout our time here and we will miss them greatly.

Gort is our nearest town and is excellent for all your local shopping needs and has a number of lovely bistro-style places to eat.

Lough Graney is an anglers' paradise and the surrounding East Clare Way is a must for keen walkers.

We are blessed with some of the finest traditional music pubs locally and the famous Feakle Festival is held in the next village to us.

The Burren is a 20-minute drive away and we often spend lazy afternoons walking the dog along the Flaggy Shore.

Who'd like your home?

Everyone! It has been perfect for our children growing up with so much space around them.

It is a great family home, or could be right for a couple who appreciate the traditional style of a heritage home and enjoy entertaining. Or just anyone who yearns for peace and quiet with a stunning location on their doorstep!?
