Number 59 Serpentine Avenue, Sandymount, Dublin 4, is a two-storey, end-of-terrace property on the Sandymount side of the tracks. The four-bedroom house has been completely rebuilt and comes with some lovely touches. It is for sale through Gunne with an asking price of €1.875 million.

It's a well-appointed property contained within a period shell.

The house opens into an elegantly proportioned hallway, framed on one side by a swish, wrought-iron stairway. A honey-coloured oak floor features reclaimed parquet tiles and has an inlaid ebony trim. This flooring covers the footprint of the original house and is one of the property's strongest features.

As a base it will work equally well with contemporary or antique furnishings.

The hall leads into a sage green drawingroom with a marble corner fireplace. This room opens into the adjacent diningroom, painted in the same colour and another corner fireplace. This is a brass-plated design by Shane Holland that should look wonderful with an open fire blazing in it.

Large-format French doors lead down into the roomy kitchen which is more than 50sq m (538sq ft) in size. There is an integrated kitchen with gloss units, granite countertops and a Smeg dishwasher, a Liebherr fridge and a Brittania six-ring hob and double-electric fan oven.

A roof-light runs the length of the space and the breakfast area has a sliding glass Danske wall to the patio and city-sized garden. The cool green theme continues throughout and, coupled with the ample glazing, gives a soft, diffused quality to the light at the rear of the house.

A galley-shaped utility room houses the washer, drier and freezer and also has direct access to the walled garden, which is south-facing. There is underfloor heating throughout the ground floor.

A room at the foot of the garden also features Danske glazing and could be used as a home office, studio, gym or children's playroom, depending on your own needs. It's a welcome addition providing escape from the otherwise open-plan main house.

Upstairs there are four bedrooms, all with storage.

The main bedroom is situated to the rear of the house and has an en suite shower room with a stone-walled shower. While the washes of colour work well on the reception rooms downstairs the colour palette upstairs is stronger and, after a decade of neutrality, may not be to everyone's taste. This is easily addressed. The house is 195sq m (2,100sq ft) in size, excluding the studio. There is off-street parking out front.

Number 59 hasn't been staged for sale and may appear bare to viewers who have spent recent weekends walking into perfectly laid-out interiors. The beauty of this is that there is nothing to distract from the craftsmanship of the work throughout.
