Dublin 1/from €306,000: The last six two-bedroom apartments at the Portland Lock scheme beside the Royal Canal in Dublin 1 are being released by Hooke & MacDonald this week.

Prices start at €306,000 for the two-bedroom units which range in size from 59-66 sq m (635-710 sq ft). Car-parking spaces cost an extra €17,000 per spot.

Designed by architects O'Dwyer & Associates and developed by Walsh Maguire & Co, Portland Lock is a scheme of 49 apartments in five four-storey blocks set within landscaped gardens with significant canalside frontage just off Dorset Street.

With completions due this summer, the development is mainly of brick-fronted elevations above underground car-parking accessed off Portland Place.

Portland Lock is located within walking distance of the city centre. A number of bus routes to the city centre pass nearby while Drumcondra railway station - with an Arrow train service to Connolly Station - is just across the road.

The development is near the city's principal business district while offering easy access to the pubs, shops and restaurants in Drumcondra and Phibsborough. The Mater Hospital is nearby, as are a large number of third-level institutions. In addition, a site on the eastern side of the development is ear-marked for a new park with seating areas and a walkway by the canal.
